Day: We're HOME! (By way of Kent)
Recess Monkey signWe left the Kennedy School this morning under-rested and over-excited to see our old stomping grounds. It's wierd to see the word "Seattle" on a road sign after seeing tons of other names that until then only existed as names on a map!

Google Maps sent us the back way to Kent, so we actually didn't see Seattle until after we played, a nice coda.

We've earned it!

As we rolled into Kent, it was the street sign that hammered the point home. Since our McCartney Road sighting outside of Phoenix, Daron has been craving an homage to George Harrison, particularly because Drew's Pennsylvania accent makes his pronunciation sound like Harrrr-ison.

Here's Jack below, doing the Monkey Bars on the lawn, kids screaming as they trample ov er picnic blankets! This is the most epic time it's ever happened; Drew had time to take this picture from stage during the song! The Kent outdoor show ended up being one of the coolest on tour- tons and tons and TONS of high energy kids, 700, we were told, dancing in the sun. A great show!

So, this is it. We're on I-5, Southern Daron is driving, Heat Stroke is gazing out the window and smiling and Night Rider is typing these words. Daron just put on the song "The Bluest Skies Youve Ever Seen, In Seattle," just the kind of Mystical thing you'd expect from him- he probably loaded it into his iPod the moment we decided we were touring, just for this moment.

We're at Boeing Field now.

The song just ended and now Daron is putting on the radio and the radio presets actually WORK! Yeah, there's KUOW, right where we left it! 81 degrees and a few clouds in Seattle at 2:06, he says.

Exit 161 now, Swift-Albro, meaning we're just a moment away from the Southern vista of the city. Jeremy Richards just came on the radio- we really are home! We know him!

And now, you can't see it, but we are turning the corner to the right, past signs for the West Seattle Bridge, Past the exit for I-90 (we've taken it), and THERE! IT! IS!

Home. Sweet. Home.

You've got to imagine it because there's no time to stop typing. It's a hot summer day, the Mariners are playing (losing?) with the top down. You can't hear it, but we're each sighing, moaning, gasping at the sight of our dear, dear city.

This is it. The trip is over. The blog has ended. Our beds (sweet, sweet beds!) await...

Ladies and gentlemen,

Recess Monkey is home.
